Walking and hiking in beautiful forests

This area is a paradise for hikers. The Valley of Our (Our is the river that runs through our village) is an unspoiled river valley in southeast Belgium near the borders with Luxembourg and Germany. The area has plenty of stunning panoramic views, lively villages and farms nestled in picturesque settings.

Whether you prefer a leisurely stroll through the picturesque villages or a challenging hike, here you will find over 300km of well-marked and maintained hiking trails in unspoiled nature. To help you plan your hikes, you will find in the house maps of the local area and brochures from the local tourist office.

Cycling

There are a variety of marked cycling routes ranging from gentle, flat car-free country lanes to more challenging hilly roads. The hilly landscape of the Our Valley also makes this area a popular destination for mountain biking. The mountain cycling routes follow picturesque streams, forest paths and take you through small traditional villages of this corner of Belgium.

We don’t provide rental bikes in our house but will be happy to assist you with arranging rental bikes and cycling maps from the local tourist office.

Local attractions

• Ouren is where the borders of three countries meet: Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg. Just outside the village you’ll find the Europe Monument commemorating the founding of the European Community in 1957.
• Next to our house is a stunning 12th century church of St. Peter and Paul. It offers Saturday evening service and its charming church bells are still active.
• 12th century castle at Burg-Reuland is one of the most beautiful and largest castle ruins in the Ardennes. A listening tour gives visitors an impressive insight into history and life around Reuland Castle.
• Clerveaux castle and village: 20 minute drive from our village of Ouren you’ll find a picturesque village of Clerveaux with an impressive castle perched on rocky slopes above the village. In the village you’ll find traditional markets, shops and plenty of restaurants to enjoy.
